Super Rich Arabs

Just came back from a two-day business trip to Langkawi.

Langkawi is quite a beautiful island with a mixture of traditional and modern lives. Resorts and 5-star hotels line the beaches and are not far from traditional Malay villages. Pantai Cenang is full with foreign tourists and they can be seen enjoying themselves even along the roadside.

It is not the beauty of this island that I'm interested in. What attracted my attention is the number of tourists from Arab countries, especially from Saudi and the Gulf region. On my way to Langkawi, I sat beside a Saudi couple who could hardly speak English, and there were at least 20 Arabs in the same flight. This period is considered off-peak season for Arab tourists who usually come around June, July and August. I just could not imagine their numbers during the peak season. They can be seen occupying all 5 star hotels in Langkawi, such as Sheraton, Casa del Mar and The Datai.

One thing is for sure - they are filthy rich, and many of them are in their mid-twenties. It is very ironic that while our brothers and sisters in Palestine are being slaughtered by the Zionists, we are seeing our fellow Muslims seeking fun and having good times elsewhere showing their wealth. One question popped up in our minds - where is the solidarity for us as Muslims?

Really we are in the state of 'wahn'; hubbud dunya and dislike death. Seerah has taught us that for Muslims, material wealth is inversely proportional to the iman and strength of our ummah. When we are rich, our iman will be at its lowest ebb, and we are witnessing this scenario in the Muslim world today. We do not even have a feeling of solidarity with our brothers and sisters who are suffering greatly under kuffar occupation. Worst still, the richs among us would rather spend obscenely in worldly matters such as buying 'toys' in the form of horses from the major horse racetracks (especially those from alMaktoum and alSaud families), or football players for their clubs, or even buying extra-ordinary car license plate.

It is our obligation that we extend our help to those needy Muslims all around the world. The time will come when the wealth will be taken away from us.

وَفِىٓ أَمۡوَٲلِهِمۡ حَقٌّ۬ لِّلسَّآٮِٕلِ وَٱلۡمَحۡرُومِ

"And in their wealth and possessions (was remembered) the right of the (needy,) him who asked, and him who (for some reason) was prevented (from asking)'. (AzZaariyaat 19)

من لم يهتم بأمر المسلمين فليس منهم

'Whom so ever is no concerned with the affairs of Muslims, he is not from among them'

Feel for the suffering of all oppressed Muslims in the world, and do not be blinded to all issues affecting Muslims. The ummah is waiting for us to do something.
